Celebrate Diwali with CJMR Radio this weekend
Diwali is a season of light, family, and togetherness. This year, CJMR Radio is proud to celebrate it with you. We’re bringing the warmth of the Festival of Lights to your home, your car, and wherever your celebrations take you.
A weekend made for celebration
You already know what makes this time of year special: the glow of the diyas, the full tables, and the joy of being surrounded by the people you love. Our Diwali Special is our way of adding to that joy and celebrating alongside our listeners.
Saturday morning is a relaxed way to ease into the weekend. Sunday evening brings five full hours of festive company, just as homes light up and families gather.
The traditions that make this season so beautiful
If someone in your life is curious about what Diwali means or how it’s celebrated, here are a few of the traditions that make this season so meaningful, explained the way you might share them with a friend:
- The date follows the moon. Unlike holidays tied to a fixed date, Diwali falls at a different time each year because it follows the lunar calendar. It typically lands sometime in October or November, so when you see the date shift, that’s why.
- Rangoli is a welcome sign. Those intricate, colourful patterns you see at the entrances of homes aren’t just decoration. They’re created by hand to greet guests and invite good energy into the space. Every design is its own quiet expression of care.
- Sweets are how you say “I care.” Sharing boxes of mithai, the traditional South Asian sweets, with friends and neighbours is one of the most beloved parts of the season. It’s a small gesture that carries a lot of warmth.
- It’s a season of fresh starts. Many families use Diwali as a reset: homes are cleaned, new clothes are worn, and there’s a sense of renewal in the air. It’s a time to let go of what’s behind you and step into what’s ahead.
