MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — CJMR plans to resume broadcasting on AM-1320 and is currently in a testing phase with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), pending CRTC approval of the technical amendment application.
In January 2026, CJMR ceased broadcasting on the AM band due to the redevelopment of the previous transmitter site and advised the Commission that the company was exploring a technical solution on AM. A new antenna location has been found.
A separate transfer of ownership application has also been filed with the Commission by Chawla News Network Toronto Inc., which has purchased the station from Trafalgar Broadcasting Limited, part of Whiteoaks Communications Group.
Chawla News Network Toronto Inc. is fully owned by Dilbag Chawla, longtime CJMR host of “Rangla Punjab”. He became a trusted voice for the South Asian community through CJMR’s broad reach and introduction of Punjabi and Hindi programming in the early 1980s.

CJMR launched in 1974 and moved to its current AM-1320 frequency on January 9, 1990. Formerly a mix of multilingual and English programming, it moved to a full-time ethnic format on February 5, 2001.
Upon approval, CJMR will operate from a new permanent studio facility in Mississauga, continuing all current conditions of licence.
